Insulation System : Radiant Barrier Reflective Insulation Systems

  The main reason for build up of heat in a building / sheds / godowns is due to radiation. The heat build up can be effectively reduced by providing reflective insulation as this product reflects the heat back and does not allow flow of radiant heat inwards.

Radiant Barrier or Reflective Insulation is, in general, a layer of foil facing an airspace, installed in the envelope of a structure. Such systems are very effective in impending radiant heat transfer and consequent heat loss / gain.

In order to reduce the green house gas emission one of the major steps that can be taken is to reduce the affect of radiant heat build up in buildings. This heat build up can be effectively reduced by providing reflective insulation, as this product reflects back 97% of the radiant heat and does not allow heat flow inwards. 

The radiant barrier work on a simple and proven principle. Heat like light travels primarily by radiation and not by convection (air currents) or conduction (contact) and just like light, the flow of heat can be reversed by simple reflection.

The heat transmission from the roof is by radiant heat. We effectively eliminate radiant heat with our insulation foil Silver Ceil / Silver Sark / Metafoil and even if the foil is hot it does not transmit heat. The operating temperature inside the room is reduced by up to 10°C on a hot day.

Similarly the reflective foil can be effectively used in “Cavity Walls” and as “Building Wrap”.

The reduction in operating temperature leads to better comfort and substantially reduces energy requirements. With this foil system, minimum insulation R-value (thermal resistance) of 2.4 to 4.9 can be achieved in summer, which is much more than minimum of R 2.1 to 3.5 for roofs & R 1.80 to 2.20 for walls specified for compliance in the recently released Energy Building Code 2007.

The energy conservation in a well designed building having radiant heat barrier in the walls and roofs can be as high as 20-25%, which will have huge impact in reduction of carbon dioxide emission and Air conditioning loads.
